PLD Day 2017: Building Connections

PLD Day is coming soon! Register now and join us on Wednesday, April 12th for a day of building connections with each other and in the community.

Free parking is available in a public lot to the south of the event center or on nearby city and neighborhood streets. We encourage carpooling and ride sharing.

Keynote Presentation:
We are pleased to welcome Michele Garnett McKenzie, Deputy Director of the Advocates for Human Rights, to present this year's keynote session: Immigration and Human Rights in Minnesota. Michele Garnett McKenzie leads research, education, and advocacy efforts for The Advocates for Human Rights in areas including migration and human trafficking. As an attorney with a background representing asylum seekers and detained immigrants, and a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Michele serves on the national leadership of the Immigration Advocates Network and has also served as an adjunct clinical faculty member of William Mitchell College of Law and the University of Minnesota Law School. Her talk will serve as an introduction to the issues of human rights and immigration as they pertain to Minnesota's public libraries.

  • Breakout sessions on topics including library advocacy, emergency children's librarianship, reader's advisory, and more
  • Lightning rounds - learn what's new and exciting in Minnesota libraries
  • Networking time and other activities
  • An optional tour of the Northfield Public Library following the final session
  • An optional happy hour in downtown Northfield to round out the day

Continental breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon dessert break are included in the registration cost with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. 

PLD Day is an annual event for those who work in or are invested in public libraries. This event is hosted by the Minnesota Library Association's Public Libraries Division and is sponsored in part by Minitex, an Information and Resource Sharing Program of the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and the University of Minnesota Libraries.
