Mid-Career Initiative

MLA Pre-Conference Session

Wednesday, September 18, 2019
1:00 - 5:00 PM

Hey library staff! So you're not a newbie to the library and retirement is still a ways away. How do you keep yourself engaged in your library work and keep burnout at bay? How do you successfully balance work and life? How do you manage when you're not necessarily in management?  The new Mid-Career Initiative of Minnesota Library Association is kicking off its endeavors with a pre-conference at MLA.

Common myths and stereotypes associated with mid-career are negative in focus. Do phrases like “mid-career malaise”, “mid-career crisis”, and “mid-career slump” come to mind? These stereotypes can be a reality for some, but they don’t need to be a reality for you. Join us for the Finding Your Mid-Career Mojo session! We are going to learn about and use tools and approaches grounded in positive psychology, Appreciative Inquiry and Emotional Intelligence to make mid-career more magnificent than melancholy.
Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a set of social and emotional skills that allow us to effectively perceive and express ourselves, build and nurture relationships with others, cope with stress and challenges, and use emotional information to make meaningful and appropriate decisions. These skills are critical to personal well-being and success and can serve as a critical ally as we navigate life experiences and transitions and purposefully plan our mid-career strategy.

Featured speaker: Robin Stubblefield

Cost = $50 per person

Registration will be capped at 40 people, so register today!
The event is currently only open to MLA Members. It will open to everyone on Sept. 2, pending availability.
