Join us for Library Legislative Day at the Capitol!

Tuesday, February 26, 2019

MN State Capitol Building, L'Etoile du Nord

Join library supporters from across Minnesota as they head to St. Paul for the annual statewide library advocacy event to meet with elected officials at the Capitol. We need to see supporters from across the state! MLA & ITEM co-sponsor the event.
Activities begin the afternoon of February 25 in Capitol Room 316. Legislators, their staff, and our advocates are all invited to an informal meet and greet at the Capitol. Light refreshments will be served and you can have your photo taken to be turned into a READ poster. Please be sure to personally invite your representatives to this event via a phone call or email; even if you cannot attend.

Get an update on library legislative issues form the MLA/ITEM lobbyist on February 25 at 5pm. This verbal report will get you motivated and prepared to speak with your representatives. The briefing repeats at 9am on February 26 at the Capitol.

Tuesday, February 26 is our major in-person advocacy day. Contact your regional library system for information on scheduling an in-person appointment with your officials. Help us show our elected officials just how much Minnesotans value their libraries!

Can't make it to the Capitol? You can still participate the entire week of February 25-March 1 through Virtual Legislative Week. Reach out to your legislators by phone, email, mail, Twitter, or other means all week long. Even if you do go to the Capitol, keep in touch the rest of the week! The Minnesota Advocacy website has sample tweets, letter templates, email samples, and other suggestions how to reach out.
