Volunteer!

The conference promises to be an exciting opportunity for learning and sharing. It also offers an opportunity to be of service to your professional community.

Volunteering at the conference is a fantastic way to network and meet new people, catch up with old friends as you see them, and get in touch with the workings of the conference. Many volunteers are needed in several areas. An hour or two of your time can make a significant difference!

We are in need of four types of volunteers:

We also need Twitterers!

Please consider volunteering this year, even if you’ve been to the conference dozens of times. It’s always fun to see the people who come by your location—and it always feels good to volunteer!

How to volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please contact conference volunteer coordinator Stephanie Hall at stephanie.hall@pas.k12.mn.us. She will respond to offers, confirm assignments, and give more information as needed.

Are you an enrolled library student?

Volunteering can get you free registration for the conference! (Only currently enrolled library students are eligible.)

For free registration for… …you would need to volunteer for:
Wednesday only two hours
Thursday only three hours
Friday only two hours
Full conference seven hours (may be split up between locations and duties to maximize exposure and FUN potential)

Registration volunteers

Volunteers can help out at the registration desk from one to eight hours on Wednesday or Thursday and through 10:00AM Friday. The shifts are usually two hours long, but volunteers can select their preferred length. Volunteer for as many shifts as you like!

This is a good area for networking and meeting attendees. Volunteers will never be alone; someone from the registration committee or office will always be present.

Volunteers will assist the registration committee and office staff with:

  • Checking in attendees
  • Handing out attendee materials, name badges, and pre-ordered t-shirts
  • Registering attendees on site
  • Selling extra t-shirts
  • Welcoming speakers when they check in, handing them their name badges, and directing them to their session locations

Silent Auction volunteers

Volunteers are needed for a number of two-hour shifts on Wednesday and Thursday. Volunteers are usually on their feet during the entire shift. It’s a great place to network and meet people as everyone comes to the auction at some point during the conference.

Silent Auction volunteers will:

  • Help set up the auction before it starts
  • Answer questions customers might have about an item
  • Sell raffle tickets
  • Process items after the sale ends for the day
  • Take payment from customers for items won
  • Help clean up after the auction is over at the end of the conference

Room moderators

If you’re planning to attend a particular session anyway, this is a great way to volunteer to help keep the session on track and moving—not to mention a way to help out the conference planners.

Room moderators will:

  • Arrive early to the selected/assigned session
  • Get help, especially technical, when necessary (you don’t have to know how to do it yourself; you just might have to find someone who can)
  • Hand out and collect evaluations
  • Keep time and alert speakers (if speakers request)

Photographers

Photography needs will be scheduled later in September. It’s not too early to make that a preference!
