This premier educational event attracted more than 400 library professionals, Friends of the Library, and library trustees from across Minnesota.

We took this year’s theme to heart and incorporated the best of what the MLA Annual Conference is known for—with a few new twists.

Attendees found what the MLA Annual Conference always delivers:

  • High-quality continuing education opportunities with more than 50 breakout sessions
  • Informative and thought-provoking keynote speakers
  • Exhibit hall (with vendors you wanted to talk to), the Internet Café, and the Minnesota Library Foundation Silent Auction
  • Networking opportunities
  • Annual Membership Business Meeting as well as business meetings for divisions, sections, and roundtable groups

And they found a few new things in 2011:

  • Featured speakers – In addition to our engaging keynote speakers, this year the conference had featured speakers during some of the breakout sessions.
    • Jenna Blum, leading the One Book, One Conference discussion of her novel The Stormchasers
    • Elisabeth Doucett, sharing how how libraries can benefit from strategic merchandising and trend tracking
    • Rebecca Shlafer, sharing how libraries can support children of incarcerated parents
    • Anita Silvey (author of Everything I Need to Know I Learned from a Children’s Book), delivering the Sharon Lerner Lecture
  • Conference tracks – To create a more integrated conference experience for attendees, this year’s breakout sessions were part of the following tracks:
    • Administration & Leadership
    • Authors, Literature & Programming
    • Children & Young Adults
    • Collection Management & Technical Services
    • Digital Information & Technologies
    • Support Staff Interests
